Pump application guide
Solar Water Pumps for Irrigation and Remote Water Supply
Plan a solar pumping system for agricultural irrigation, livestock watering, boreholes and remote surface-water transfer using flow, head and daily water demand.
Who this is for
Application context
Farms, irrigation projects, livestock operations and remote sites that need water where grid power is unavailable, unreliable or expensive.
Before model selection
Information to collect
- Required daily water volume and operating hours
- Bore diameter, static water level and pumping water level
- Vertical lift, pipe length, diameter and fittings
- Surface-pump suction lift when the pump is outside the water
- Available solar irradiance, array space and any AC backup source
Candidate pump families
Ranges to investigate.
These are starting points, not model recommendations. Confirm the exact duty, materials and current curve.
Solar deep-well pumps
For boreholes and wells where the pump operates below the water level.

For accessible ponds, tanks, canals and transfer duties with acceptable suction conditions.
Explore range →AC/DC hybrid solar pumps
For projects that may use solar DC plus a compatible AC or generator backup arrangement.

How to narrow the selection.
Calculate the real duty point
Combine elevation change, pumping water level, delivery pressure and pipe friction into total dynamic head. Define the flow needed at that head rather than comparing maximum flow and maximum head separately.
Match pump, controller and solar array
Check the selected model curve at the duty point, then confirm controller voltage and current limits and the required series-parallel solar-panel arrangement.
Allow for seasonal conditions
Water level, sunlight and irrigation demand change by season. Review the worst credible operating condition and decide whether storage or backup power is required.
Avoid these errors
Common selection mistakes.
- Selecting only by motor horsepower
- Treating maximum flow and maximum head as simultaneous
- Ignoring pumping-water-level drawdown
- Using a surface pump where suction conditions are unsuitable
