Engineering selection guide

How to Select an Air-Operated or Electric Diaphragm Pump

Compare the QBY air-operated and DBY electric-drive ranges from utility availability, liquid properties, duty and compatible wetted parts—not from appearance alone.

A practical selection sequence

1. Characterize the liquid

Provide chemical name and concentration, temperature, viscosity, density, solids size and abrasiveness. Confirm the diaphragm, ball or valve, seal and casing materials against the actual process liquid.

2. Select the drive concept

A QBY air-operated pump needs a suitable compressed-air supply with the required pressure and volume; a DBY electric unit needs the correct motor supply and electrical protection. Check site restrictions, controls and maintenance access before comparing.

3. Specify the full duty

State target flow, discharge pressure, suction conditions, pipe losses, run time and any intermittent or dry-running requirement. Ask for the exact model's capacity data under those conditions; published maxima are not a complete operating point.

4. Confirm installation details

Request connection dimensions, air consumption or motor data, allowable solids, noise and pulsation expectations, and maintenance parts. Verify any hazardous-location requirements separately rather than assuming every diaphragm pump is approved.

Frequently asked questions

Is QBY the electric version?

No. QBY is air-operated; DBY is electric-drive in the JIABO range.

Can one diaphragm material handle all chemicals?

No. Compatibility depends on the exact chemical, concentration and temperature.
