Engineering selection guide
How to Select a Chemical Transfer Pump
Chemical-pump selection starts with fluid compatibility and containment, then the required flow, pressure, suction and exact FSB configuration.
A practical selection sequence
1. Give a complete fluid specification
Provide the chemical name, concentration, temperature range, density, viscosity, any suspended solids and cleaning liquids. A general label such as 'acid' does not establish compatibility with a fluoroplastic lining, seal or other wetted part.
2. Define the hydraulic duty
Specify flow and total head or differential pressure at normal and peak conditions, plus source level, suction piping and destination pressure. Evaluate NPSH and vapor pressure for volatile or hot liquids.
3. Check every wetted component
Request the exact-model materials for casing or lining, impeller, shaft sleeve, mechanical seal and elastomers. Check the process liquid and any cleaning or upset conditions against that full list, not the headline casing material alone.
4. Plan containment and operation
Provide leakage tolerance, installation environment, motor supply and any local safety or hazardous-area requirements. Ask for the current curve, seal plan, temperature and pressure limits, dimensions and maintenance instructions before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Is every FSB pump suitable for every acid?
No. Chemical concentration, temperature and all wetted materials must be checked for the exact configuration.
Can clean-water performance be assumed for another liquid?
No. Density, viscosity, vapor pressure and solids can change performance and reliability.
